What is DNABolt? DNABolt works to prevent unauthorized access to applications and services ordinarily protected by usernames and passwords. A common security breach, for example, occurs in the case of compromised user account information, which is subsequently used for unauthorized transactions, impersonation or fraud. This is a serious security threat and often an underestimated concern for many organizations. This threat is potentially the worst security threat to leave unchecked since, done correctly, an attacker can perform attacks over time, leaving virtually no trace, and potentially indicating someone else as the perpetrator of the crime.
The DNABolt software authentication system works to mitigate this scenario by pairing the username and password already existing in the product or service with the device being used to conduct authentication or transactions. A user thus becomes associated with the device. In order for an unauthorized user to take advantage of the protected account, the unauthorized user would have to attempt access from the protected user’s machine. By its nature then, someone in a remote location could not make use of a DNABolt protected account. Bolt for Zimbra showcases this very technique.
